Description

Antique museum quality, working persons smock. The Victoria and Albert museum have a very similar garment. Extremally rare item maybe only a few of this quality , design and condition in the world .

Very well tailored in an intricate design, slightly different shade of material used on the inside sleeves, well made bone buttons.

The most distinctive features of this smock are two large panels of double thickness that extend from the neck opening over the shoulders and over the upper arms, providing a little extra warmth and protection and to encouraging rain to run off rather than soak through to the body.
The extent and elaboration of the decoration suggest it was probably reserved for special occasions. based on a working garment for an agricultural labourer in south of England. This may have been a special quality example made for a prosperous family for a child or lady
